Since 1970, with the development of China’s economic construction, China’s wire rod production has also made tremendous progress and achieved significant growth. Both the output and consumption of wire rods have been steadily increasing. These national conditions determined that at the time, the demand for and output of wire rod mills in China accounted for a high proportion of total steel production as well as a substantial share of global wire rod production. However, despite being a major producer of wire rods, China still lags considerably behind advanced foreign technologies. This is mainly reflected in the relatively low proportion of high-speed wire rods, the low share of high-value-added wire rods such as hard wire and alloy steel, and the very limited use of controlled-cooling wire rods. Overall, the quality level of Chinese wire rods still cannot match that of foreign products. Currently, the proportion of high-speed wire rods in China stands at only 38%, while the remainder are produced by conventional two-stand and horizontal-line rolling mills. The outdated technology used in these conventional two-stand and horizontal-line rolling mills results in small coil weights, low precision, poor performance, high energy consumption, and limited product specifications. During the restructuring of metallurgical production technologies, these outdated mills should be phased out and replaced by high-speed wire rod mills. The evolution of wire rod mills is moving toward continuous operation, higher speeds, twist-free processing, combined structural designs, single-line configurations, automation, and mechanization. Therefore, the growing demands from users for increased wire rod output, precision, coil weight, and performance have continuously driven the advancement of wire rod mills.

Understanding Transverse Rolling Mills: Essential Insights for Metalworking Industries

Transverse rolling mills are specialized machines used in the metalworking industry to shape and process various metal materials. Unlike traditional rolling mills, which operate in a linear direction, transverse rolling mills utilize a horizontal position to roll materials transversely, allowing for unique shaping capabilities. This process is particularly beneficial for producing components like
